Democrats Leadership Agenda: Inaction
Legislature Meet Less Than Three Hours a Day In First Week of Session
ALBUQUERQUE, NM — As Americans are asking ‘where are the jobs?,’ Democrat lawmakers in New Mexico are ducking their responsibility to their constituents. At a cost of $50,000 a day, New Mexico taxpayers deserve to have to their representatives working hard to address their issues.
In stark contrast to their Democrat counterparts, Republican legislators have introduced a wide array of legislative solutions to improve education, create jobs, and strengthen public safety. Yet, Democrats continue to block these proactive, common sense solutions at every turn. Going into the seventh day of the Legislature's Special Session, Democrats have only completed 13 hours worth of actual legislating.
While everyday New Mexicans are working 10, 12 or even more hours a day to try to make ends meet, Democrat state legislators can’t muster the will to meet for even three hours a day.
“The irresponsibility of the Democrats who control the legislature is a wake up call. It is time for a change in leadership at the State Capitol,” said Republican Party of New Mexico executive director Bryan Watkins. “Democrat legislators in the House and Senate are purposefully delaying legislation because they are inconvenienced by the notion that they are at the Roundhouse to do the people’s work.”
“New Mexicans cannot afford to have our kids, our careers and our future put on hold until it is more convenient for Democrats to address them. The people of New Mexico will decide at the ballot box next year if this stalling is acceptable. At this pace, the election may very well be a referendum on Democrats' current track record of inaction,” concluded Watkins.
