Cold Remedies: Fact or Fiction?

Cold RemediesEveryone has their own cold and flu remedies that they swear by – some people take lots of vitamin C at the first sign of a cold, while others have a favourite chicken soup recipe to turn to. Do these home remedies really work? We take a look at what the science says...

Chicken Soup: More than an Old Wives' Tale?

Chicken SoupDo you remember being fed chicken soup as a child when you were sick? You may be surprised to learn that mom was right – there may be more to chicken soup than simply comfort food. We review the research on chicken soup's effect on our nasal mucous and immune system.

Recipe of the Month: Basic Chicken Soup

Basic Chicken SoupMany families have a classic chicken soup recipe that has been passed on for generations, but if you don't, this is a good place to start. Most recipes call for a whole chicken, which can seem a little bit wasteful. Instead, we use chicken legs, which are easy to find and also makes it easier to make smaller amounts if necessary. In our recipe, we used the basic combination of garlic, onion, celery and carrots as our vegetable base, but feel free to add your own based on the flavours you like and what you have on hand.
