A Note from Valerie
Dear SLCC Friends,

Our Fourth of July Barbeque was delightful.  Thank you Cathie for your gracious hospitality in providing a delicious, relaxing time.  What a wonderful gardener you are, too.  And many thanks to super BBQ’er Ted.

The Missional Church team and Backpack Playgroup are moving into high gear for the next month.  We start this Saturday.  And WE NEED YOU to invite neighbors to the Backpack Packing Party, going out two by two.  It’ll be fun, as we hand out special invitations to our neighbors.  Meet this Saturday at church at 10 AM.  Also, check out all the new dates on the calendar.

Looking ahead to this Sunday,  we’ll think about whether we can really separate weeds from wheat, evil from good.

With thanks for all you who serve God in many marvelous ways,
Valerie

The Rev. was preaching a sermon at the Confirmation service. From the back of the church a large, two headed, fire-breathing monster with horns and a large tail slithered hideously down the middle aisle of the church, and worked its way up to the railing around the chancel.

The minister stepped down from the pulpit, moved over to the monster, placed hands on top of the monster's heads, and said a couple of words. Soon, the monster moved down the aisle, and headed out the back door.

The minister climbed back up into the pulpit, heaved a sigh of relief and said, "Well, I must tell you, I just confirmed my worst nightmare!"

From the Scott Family -
Dear San Leandro Community Church,
During a time like this we realize how much our friends and relatives really mean to us... Your expression of sympath will always be remembered.
With Sincere Gratitude,
Dave, Nathan, Nicole, Katherine and Baby

Here is a list of people, places and happenings that you may want to include in your prayers this week (please tell Lauren or Valerie of names you‘d like to add):

Concerns:  Gloria, Dorothy, Dick, Margaret, Joyce, Marqui, Sheldon, Marge, Dayle, Darlene, David, Nicole, Nathan and all family and friends of Lisa, those caught in the hell of war and oppression, the MCLE team, SLCC Council, our building mates, the Evergreen Association, ABC, and the Northern California Nevada Conference, UCC.

Lunch Bunch -  results are in! Thank you to those who took the survey! Below, in alphabetical order, are your top choices!

Chevy's, Elio's, Englander, Harry's Hofbrau, Ploughman's, Sizzler's, Tequila Grill, Vo's

Lauren pulled from a hat (or online algorythmic randomizer!) to see where we'll be Lunch Bunching each month (avoiding repeats, of course, until we've run through the list.) If plans ever need to change, no big deal! But at least we'll have an idea in advance of where we're going, if we need to make reservations and we can let our SLCC Friends know earlier rather than later in case they want to join us!

August 14th: Tequila Grill
September 11th: Sizzler's
October 9th: Chevy's
