Hello!
Another season has come to a close. This year, we were blessed with better than average weather for the second year in a row.
How fortunate are we? Countless projects were completed this year….especially after the Labour Day weekend.
Fishing
The fishing this season was outstanding. Every year, for the last 5 and counting, we have asked the same question when closing the lodge for the year, “How much better can the walleye fishing possibly be next year?”….surprisingly, it improved again this year. Countless large walleye were caught and released throughout the season. Seems commonplace for our guests to share daily pics and stories of a 25-30 inch walleye. The northern pike fishery remains very healthy. Several 40+ inch fish were caught and released especially during the early and late season.

For those smallmouth bass fishermen that make the annual trek to Eagle Lake, this year also exceeded their expectations. Warm weather in early season provided ideal spawning conditions in late May/ early June for loads of aggressive top water action. Our largest of the season was a 24” “hawg”. Late season, deep reef fishing was very consistent as usual. Several of our hunters this fall spent time fishing during their mid-day breaks. Nothing like catching a 5lb smallie on light tackle in deeper water.
Muskie fishing at Eagle Lake again this year didn’t disappoint. The largest of the season was a 57” monster caught by one of our regular guests, Mike Pecorelli, from Chicago IL. His trophy was landed and released in early July, just a couple weeks after the opening of the season. Just inches short of the lake record, 2012 may just be the year to produce the next world record Muskie.

Hunting
Hunting seasons produced good results again this year. Even during the warmer temperatures of November, our whitetail hunt was a success. For the last three years, the same group of hunters booked again for another return trip in 2012.
Construction Projects
Construction and renovation projects advanced ahead of our planned schedule for the season. Ash cabin rebuild is complete. This new building now sleeps 6 very comfortably and includes a beautiful, west facing, screened-in porch. All those guests that stayed in this cabin during the 2011 season loved it.

The Dogwood conversion and renovation was finished this Fall. It’s ready for next season, for our larger housekeeping groups. This project included an addition housing two bedrooms and large screened in front porch. The main part of the existing cabin has been redesigned including a new kitchen. This cabin is now one of the most popular choices for returning guests.
The centerpiece of our projects for this year has been the new main lodge. This2700 sq ft facility has exceeded even our expectations for it’s layout, view and functionality. The new kitchen and dining rooms are fabulous. The games room with pool and poker tables, dart board, bar area and of course, the mandatory 50+ inch big screen TV, has an awesome view north, across “Dead Man’s Reef”. The second level includes a large boardroom with business center for guests to stay on touch during your stay.
Thanks to all for another great year!
Season’s Greetings to all.
See you in 2012,
Mark
