This Halloween weekend brings fun for kids and adults. For kids, Treasures of Hope will hold its Fall Fun Festival on Saturday from 1-5 pm with face painting and games. On Sunday Dynacity Mall will hold a "Mall Trick-or-Treating": Kids will be given bags and can go from shop to shop to get candy, starting at 2 pm. Look for signs in the mall on where to meet.

For adults, parties are taking place at One for the Road, Vita Bar, Ibiza Lake Club on Saturday night. Special meals at the Sofitel Royal Lagoon, Hyatt Regency, and Lakeview Restaurant in Nancheng's Central Square. There is a party Saturday during the day at the Dena Sales Center, next to the Dynacity Mall. Also, guests at the Sofitel Royal Lagoon jazz bar on Halloween (Monday) who wear a costume will get "a big surprise." See details below.

In a non-Halloween activity, the 31st is the last chance for teenagers age 12-18 to apply to enter Pizzeria Calzone's pizza-making contest. Applications are available at the Dongcheng branch. Also, it's the last weekend to try Dongguan hotels' October promotions, which are ending.

Q. How is the quality of the tapwater in Dongguan? Can you wash vegetables and fruit with it, cook with it, wash yourself, brush your teeth... ? Is a water filter better, and any recommendations for the filters, price indications ? Thanks a lot for your concern and all the answers --Isabelle

A. According to sources, 97% of Dongguan's water meets Chinese national standards, which means after boiling it is safe to drink, and without boiling it is safe for household use, including washing food and brushing teeth. HERE! spoke to the Dongjiang water treatment plant, which said its water leaves the plant safe to drink, but due to poor infrastructure it may not end up good enough to drink, but still safe for most uses.

If you have a problem or special concern with your water, one place to start is the water bill for your apartment, which should say who the supplier is. Also talk to the management center of the apartment complex. Both will try to blame the other. To be absolutely sure, the Dongguan Disease Control and Prevention Center will perform water tests, but you must bring the water to them at their location near the Nancheng Bus Station, only on a Mondays, and it costs RMB 600.
