A Letter from the Panhellenic President: Heidi Stafford
As President of Panhellenic at San Diego State I would like to congradulate all of our amazing girls for a great Fall semester. As well as, introduce those who are unfamiliar with Greek life with what we are involved in both on-campus and off-campus. Since I became President last March I have seen our Recruitment Director, Lindsey Beroza, and our Assitant Recruitment Director, Katie Simmons, lead our Panhellenic community through a successful Fall Formal Recruitment, where many Chapters exceeded quota, despite dealing with many obstacles including a county-wide blackout. Our chapters were inspired to cheer on their sisters thanks to our Sports Director, Courtney Wilcox's efforts to create Co-Ed Sports teams with the men of the Inter Fraternity Council. We have made great strides in educating our woman about the mature use of alcohol with GAMMA (Greek Advocating the Mature Management of Alcohol). GAMMA is currently ran by our Risk Management Director, Lacey O'Brien. Amongst the thirteen executive positions on the Panhellenic Council, we have been working towards increasing our service hours, maintaining our high average GPA, and working towards unifying as a community. Each week, we manage to come together to discuss the importance of our weekly and monthly events including community service, Philanthropies, and sisterhood events at both Executive Board meetings and Chapter Delegate meetings. For our fall sisterhood event we chose to rent out an entire theatre for the Twlight: Breaking Dawn premiere, where more that 250 Panhellenic women came together and enjoyed some trivia, popcorn, and a movie. Despite all holding different values near to our hearts, we have managed to create a community for SDSU Greek women to come together and strive towards excellence in every aspect of our lives. Thanks for a great semester, we are looking forward to seeing what spring has in store for us.

Alpha Epsilon Phi
This semester Alpha Epsilon Phi has done so many things. We had a joint Chapter and Alumni weekend with the UCSD Chapter to celebrate the 102nd year anniversary. The following weekend we had Presents for the new members, all their parents came and got to enjoy a slideshow of the past year of Alpha Epsilon Phi followed by a house tour and brunch. Just recently we tabled for one of our national philanthropies, Sharsheret, to help spread awareness about breast cancer. In one day of table we collected $137 but overall we have raised $256.78. On November 6th we participated in Hillel’s Mitzvah day community service project and went to The Ronald McDonald House. As the semester is coming to and end soon we are looking forward to having our big sis revealing November 18th and initiating our newest members on December 5th.

Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Chi Omega has had a very involved semester! We started it off with a very successful recruitment where we welcomed 67 beautiful new sisters into our chapter. In our busiest month of the semester, October, we had a successful Parents Weekend, where we all went to an Aztecs Football game. Also, we had a New Member Brunch where we presented each New Member and gave the parents some insight on what there girls were becoming a part of. As we continued throughout our semester, we received a wonderful letter from our Nationals, letting us know that we had been recognized for the national Alpha Chi Omega Progress Award. During our Founder’s Day Brunch on the 23rd of October at the Mission Bay Catamaran Resort, we were presented with this lovely award from the National Vice President, whom came back to our chapter house along with many other prestigious Alpha Chi Alumni. We just had a sisterhood event on November 10th where our entire chapter went to the San Diego Chargers vs. Oakland Raiders NFL game. We have done so many great things this semester and are looking forward to a new executive board and great times in the spring!

Delta Gamma
Delta Gamma started the year off with Bid Day, celebrating 67 new members into our sisterhood. For the rest of the semester we participated in Homecoming Week and Aztec Nights Events on campus. Also this year we had a fundraiser at Woodstock's and our Delta Gam-burger BBQ fundraiser to raise money and awareness for our foundation Service for Sight. We also supported our foundation by volunteering at the La Jolla Braille Institute and KPBS as well as participated in the Vision Walk. We also had a large group representing Delta Gamma at Race for the Cure for breast cancer, raising close to $800 from our team alone. We are looking forward to participating in SAE and Sigma Chi's philanthropies within the next couple weeks and having a fabulous night at semi-formal in the beginning of December!

Kappa Delta
Kappa Delta has had a fun and busy semester this fall! We started off with an amazing Recruitment with new members that we absolutely love. They have become great active members that we are extremely proud of. As a chapter we had multiple sisterhood events each month, fun socials, a successful Father Daughter Day at Dave and Busters and celebrated KD’s national holiday International Girls Day with over 60 Girl Scouts at our house. We were also happy to participate in the philanthropy Symbols of Love for the USFC Chapter Sigma Alpha Zeta. Kappa Delta performed a dance and poem to help spread awareness about domestic violence. The highlight of Kappa Delta’s semester was definitely receiving the Dean’s Trophy for first place in Standards of Excellence. It has been a long term goal and accepting the award was a huge honor for the chapter. To wrap up the semester we are having a Christmas event for our alumni before finals begin. Kappa Delta is looking forward to a great spring semester with a new chapter council and more fun events to do together!

A Letter from an Advisor: Yvonne Hernandez
Wow! It’s amazing to think I’m at the end of my first semester in Greek Life! It has been a whirlwind of a fall semester. Our fall has been full of really great activities sponsored by our Greek community, including Delta Sigma Theta’s Women’s Health Awareness Program; Sigma Phi Epsilon’s diversity panel discussion; Phi Beta Sigma’s East Africa Awareness program; the Interfraternity Council’s successful fall recruitment and Sigma Lambda Gamma’s Zumba-A-Thon benefitting breast cancer awareness. We’ve also had our challenges and growing pains as we continue to move towards a more values-based community.
This spring we are gearing up for new programs such as the President’s Leadership Academy, the Rho Chi Leadership Workshop Series and committee work to take a fresh look at our Standards of Excellence program. We will also continue our long-standing traditions of the TEAM retreat and Greek Week.
I’m very proud of the progress our SDSU community continues to make in the areas of philanthropy, community service and leadership. We are moving in a positive direction and I know the spring semester will be just as busy and full of energy.

Alpha Phi
To begin the fall semester, Alpha Phi was proud to welcome 69 new members to our FA11 IN LΦVE themed Bid Day after an extremely successful formal recruitment process. The new members experienced a whirlwind of events ahead of them – filled with opportunities, relationships and leadership development in a packed semester calendar. Alpha Phi celebrated the beginning of the semester with a Preference Dance with Sigma Chi. Semester activities henceforth included an all-chapter sisterhood retreat sponsored by Self Magazine, Homecoming events with Sigma Phi Epsilon, a sisterhood pumpkin patch visit and Alpha Phi’s annual Red Dress Gala. At the Red Dress Gala, members hosted an elegant night with family and friends enjoying a dinner and silent auction downtown in the Gaslamp District. The Gamma Alpha chapter of Alpha Phi raised nearly $5,000.00 to donate to the Alpha Phi Foundation, which sponsors and supports national heart health and leadership development. Gamma Alpha would like to thank our keynote speakers at the Gala, Brandi Wallace and Dr. Timothy Quinnan for sharing with our family and friends what it truly means to be an upstanding member of Alpha Phi. Alpha Phi looks forward to the conclusion of the semester with events such as an exchange with Sigma Phi Epsilon, a semester scholarship banquet and an annual Winter Date Dance. Between all the programming activities, active members and new members participated in a variety of traditional ceremonial rituals, including a New Member Pledging Ceremony, Court of Ivy, Big Sister Revealing, New Member Presents and Initiation. New Member Presents is a truly special weekend for a new member and their families to look forward to, where the new member is presented in front of the entire chapter to her family and welcomed as a sister. Parents learned of the new member program that each new member completes and the different opportunities that Greek life can provide to their daughter. One of these opportunities that Alpha Phi is extremely proud of is their weekly community service efforts in feeding the homeless downtown with the Circle K organization. In addition to their hands on effort, throughout the semester the Executive Board was proud that Alpha Phi has completed numerous informational presentations, such as an ethics and values workshop, a House Corporation Board and Alumnae presentation, two recruitment enrichment and overview presentations, alcohol awareness and safety certification and a forum on diversity in the workplace. The Executive Board also celebrated that Alpha Phi was awarded Second Place in the Dean’s Trophy through their Standards of Excellence. With elections around the corner, the Gamma Alpha chapter is preparing to head into another successful semester with a new Executive Board and exciting opportunities ahead.

Gamma Phi Beta
Gamma Phi Beta has had a busy semester. Along with being on Greek Honor Roll and achieving third place in Standards of Excellence, the chapter gained 64 wonderful new members that have been amazing active members of the chapter. One of the greatest accomplishments this semester has been organizing our philanthropy, Crescent Classic: G Phi Joe. This week long philanthropy included IFC fraternities participating in fun events and fundraisers to raise money for our local philanthropy, Camp Cahito. The week culminated in the main event where CrossFit trainers from around San Diego challenged the fraternities in strength and endurance. Pouring rain only added to the intensity of the workouts and the event was a great success with over $3,500.00 raised for Camp Cahito.

Delta Zeta
Delta Zeta has enjoyed a full semester of recruitment, philanthropy and fun. We kicked off the year with an awesome recruitment from which we received a new group of wonderful sisters in our chapter. We then quickly moved into philanthropy mode hosting our second “Ultimate Throwdown Competition” from which we raised a grand total of $3258.81 through numerous local fundraisers, sponsorships and support from the Inter-Fraternity Council. All the proceeds were donated to The House Research Institute and Painted Turtle Camp, two of our national benefactors. We look forward to wrapping up the semester with the initiation of our Fall 2011 class and annual End of the Year Banquet, two events that will serve the perfect bookend to our busy and rewarding fall semester.

Pi Beta Phi
It has been an extraordinary semester for the California Epsilon chapter of Pi Beta Phi. We were thrilled to welcome 68 new members into our chapter during Formal Recruitment. During SDSU’s Homecoming Weekend we hosted our Parent’s Weekend. We had many activities planned throughout the weekend, including a BBQ at the chapter house and our Annual New Member Presents. On October 10th we hosted our annual Beau and Arrow Scholarship Banquet. Members invited their professors to attend. At this reception we were proud to announce that we held the highest Spring 2011 GPA of a 3.24. We recognized members that were part of our Pi club, holding a spring GPA of a 3.14 or above, and we honored our 6 members that achieved a Spring GPA of a 4.0. We also announced our Professor of the Year, Professor Paul Gilbert. Throughout the semester we also hosted many risk management presentations, community service projects and sisterhood events. We kicked off the semester with a Book Drive supporting our national philanthropy promoting literacy. Our chapter collected 350 books, which were donated to a local elementary school. Our chapter was also excited to participate in a Halloween Event hosted by SEEDS San Diego, a local group that works with teens and adults with cognitive disabilities. We are now looking forward to working on the St. Nicholas Project in partnership with the Holy Spirits Anglican Church and Sigma Chi Fraternity, in which we will be putting together Christmas baskets and then distributing them to local foster children. It has been a busy, but successful semester for our chapter!
