The Thrill of RBC GranFondo Whistler

Bob "Bobke" Roll
"I've participated in cycling events of every kind all over the planet and I can honestly say that the RBC GranFondo Whistler was the best organized, best supported, and had every contingency plan imaginable. It is a massive undertaking to get 7,000 cyclists from one point to another and I've never seen it done better. It was a thrill to participate and I hope I can return!" - Bob 'Bobke' Roll

The Ride of Your Life
Congratulations to all who rode in the second annual RBC GranFondo Whistler. We hope that the extraordinary experience of riding up one of the world's most scenic highways with seven thousand others provided you with a lifelong memory.

Claim Your Spot for 2012
Taking place on September 8, 2012, the third annual RBC GranFondo Whistler should prove to be yet another breathtaking, soul-satisfying journey.

Protecting Our Most Precious Resource: Water
In honour of the RBC GranFondo Whistler, the RBC Blue Water Project donated $25,000 to Ecotrust Canada, a non-profit whose purpose is to build the conservation economy in coastal BC. This group has a number of current initiatives underway in the Sea to Sky corridor. Followers of the RBC GranFondo Whistler Facebook page voted between four Ecotrust Canada projects to determine how the $25,000 was to be distributed. The resulting votes determined that the funds will support a new management model for community forests.

We Found Our Winner!
Thank you to all who filled out our post-event Whistler survey. A random draw was held to determine the grand-prize winner of TWO free entries to any 2012 GranFondo Canada event. Congratulations to our winner, Jeff Hamilton from Massachusetts!

Health Tips from SPUD.ca
This month's lifestyle tip comes from personal trainer Jade, reminding cyclists to always strengthen those forgotten areas during cycling training to maximize overall performance:

Personal Trainer Jade
"The focus of any good bike training program will be on improving leg strength, cardiovascular strength and endurance. However, when training for a long ride some important groupings of muscles tend to get forgotten. Muscles like the core and triceps help support the upper body when bent over the bike for long periods of time (core) as well as help move the bike laterally when moving up hills (triceps).

Adding these 2 simple exercises into your current training program will help build up strength for those forgotten areas."
