June 2011  ::   News

catalytic-sound.com has been devised by Peter Brotzmann, Mats Gustafsson, Paal Nilssen-Love, and Ken Vandermark to be a musician run cooperative that will give fans a single source to locate our work, especially unique or out of print albums, and special items (such as prints of Brotzmann's prints, catalogs, t-shirts, etc.) that are unavailable anywhere else.

While on tour we're frequently asked for certain recordings that are hard to find (independent labels with limited distribution, coupled with a diminishing number of record stores, has made it more and more difficult for listeners to locate documents of our music).  Since it's essentially impossible for us to tour with the wide array of material that we're producing, catalytic-sound has been created to give people interested in our music direct access to it.  The labels we work with are cooperating to make this musician organized program feasible- we buy albums directly from them or their distributors so that everyone gets paid correctly and we can make our prices as fair as possible for the customers.

Each week new recordings will be added to the site, we're in the process of working with Eremite and Jost Gebers of FMP to add these labels to "the roster," and soon digital downloads will be available for all albums (cds and vinyl) we're offering at catalytic-sound.  Stay tuned, things are developing quickly, and it's exciting for all of us to find new ways to make our music more accessible to the fans of contemporary Jazz and Improvised Music.  Many thanks for the incredible assistance of Mandy and Cale, who have made the whole idea of the project a reality.

Thank you for joining us.
