PSD DCE Conference
The deadline for this year's DCE Conference is rapidly approaching!  Room reservations at the Ayers must be done by Dec. 14 and we would like all registration forms sent by that date as well.  

One omission in the registration packet that has been discovered is the address to mail your form and payment back to.  Please make checks payble to the Pacific Southwest District, noting the DCE Conference in the memo and mail them to:

Whether you are a called DCE or a lay staff member or even volunteer staff for children's, youth, family or other Christian Education ministry of your church you are invited to a very unique conference, January 4-5 in Costa Mesa, CA  Facilitator Patra Mueller (former DCE Program Director at Concordia, Irvine) will help us work through the story of Nehemiah and the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem as a prism by which we will re-envision youth & family ministry in the Pacific Southwest District.  

This unique approach to a conference depends on having as many voices with a vested interest in youth & family ministry in this district a part of our discusssions.  The cost is just $65 making this not only affordable but hard to pass up.  Help us improve ministry across the district and better connect what is done by the district to the needs in your congregation by spending these two days with us.

Jr. High DYG

As noted last month, Pastor Jim Henkell of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in San Diego will be our speaker and will lead us through Christ's image of the vine and the branches from John 15 and our need for sustaining spiritual nutrition from our Creator and  Redeemer.  Additionally great breakout sessions are being planned with fantastic speakers to offer supplemental learning that is being designe to support on going confirmation instruction within your congregation.  Additionally sometime can be taken as a confirmation class to process either the weekends learning or to bond as a group through a variety of group activities offered at Thousand Pines Christian Camp, the location for this year's Jr. High DYG.

The Summit 

While we continue to work on contracting a speaker, we thought we would go ahead and made the registration packet available here:

As noted last month, The Summit, our single day gathering for youth in 5th & 6th grade, is undergoing a few changes for 2012.  The Summit has moved to Concordia Univeristy, Irvine and will be co-sponsored by Christ College (the school in CUI that prepared church workers).  Additionally The Summit has moved to an earlier date of April 14, 2012.  

Our theme for The Summit 2012 is Cross Eyed based on Hebrews 12:2.  Keep checking wwwpsdyouth.net for additional details as they are made available.

On behalf of the Lutheran colleges and universities across the United States and Canada, we're pleased to announce upcoming college information events in your area.
 
We recognize that these are difficult economic times for many families. The Lutheran colleges and universities remain committed to enrolling students regardless of their families' financial circumstances and we encourage you to ask our admissions representatives about scholarships and financial aid.
 
Our college fairs and workshops are designed to give you insight into the unique aspects of Lutheran higher education and a chance to meet representatives from some of our member colleges and universities. There is no charge for any of our events and no need to pre-register. In addition, students who attend our events will receive four application fee waivers for use at our Lutheran colleges and universities.

National Youth Ministry News
 
YOUTH MINISTRY 2012
The next symposium is scheduled for January 5-7 at the Ayres Hotel in Newport Beach, CA.  The event is being planned in partnership with Concordia University in Irvine, CA.  The focus will be the application of the Lutheran theology of the cross to youth ministry and will feature Dr. John Oberdeck, author of "Eutychus Youth: Applied Theology for Youth Ministry" (CPH) and Dr. Andrew Root, author of "Revisiting Relational Youth Ministry:  From a Strategy of Influence to a Theology of Incarnation."
