Join us on Saturday!

Our community has done something amazing — we have built our own wind farm and with a forecast of 26ºC day on Saturday, we can’t wait to celebrate with you on top of Leonards Hill.
Bring your own picnic rug, kite and cameras along – capture the best photo of the day!
Our gates will be open to the public from 12.30. Entry is $5 at the gate (members free).
The day will start with:
-
address by Mayor Rod May
-
address by leading Australian climate scientist David Karoly.
Later in the afternoon our turbines will be given their new names, officiated by Geoff Howard MP, and we will announce the recipients of the first round of our Community Fund.

After-party at Leonards Hill Hall
The Leonards Hill Hall committee is holding a fundraising after-party: head down to the Leonards Hill Hall for the ‘Wind Turbine Dance’.

Transport
The wind farm is located at 2040 Ballan-Daylesford Road, Leonards Hill. Hepburn Wind encourages you to carpool. For those coming from further afield, we suggest you visit carpoolone.com.au — a handy website where you can register your interest and meet up with fellow travellers.
If there is enough interest by those who wish to come by train, we will coordinate bus transfers between the Ballan train station and Leonards Hill. We are also planning a bus service on the day between Daylesford bus stop on Bridport Street and Leonards Hill. Please register your interest when you RSVP (there may be a nominal fee for bus transfers) or please email launch@hepburnwind.com.au for further information.
Banksia Award winners!

What a great lead-in to the week of our Launch festival — we were awarded a coveted Banksia Award on Friday night.
Judges commended Hepburn Wind on its community engagement to commit to the project and it's funding. The impressive data on its performance and its value to the local community impressed on Judges its potential for long-term viability. Also the establishment of Embark to provide guidance and lessons learned for other communities to learn from impressed the judges.
The Banksia Awards, now in their 23rd year, are Australia’s most prestigious environment awards.
While the biggest prize is the completion of our two turbines and our 1900 members, we hope that this award inspires other communities to take on similar projects, and encourages our leaders to see the value of communities taking initiative.
The Banksia Award trophy will join our Victorian Premier’s Sustainability Award and our Climate Alliance award for Innovator of the Year 2010 in our crowded office! We will bring along our new trophies on Saturday.

Climate Project international guests

Last week, 31 international guests from around the Asia-Pacific region visited the Hepburn Community Wind Farm for a tour organised by the Australian Conservation Foundation.
Coming from as far away as Fiji, Philippines, India and Indonesia, the visitors were attending The Asia Pacific Climate Change Leadership Congress in Melbourne.
The congress re-united 100 presenters from The Climate Reality Project who have been personally trained by Nobel Laureate and former US Vice President Al Gore. The congress
focused on the leadership, communication and engagement skills to mobilise communities towards creating a healthy environment.
Climate Reality Project presenters have delivered 70,000 presentations around the world and have reached out to more than 7.3 million people.
As leaders in their own communities, the delegates were very keen to see a community driven solution first hand.
